After a night of partying, my friend will always make herself throw up to get rid of the alcohol left in her stomach (she's not bulimic though). I heard throwing up only makes you drunker. Is it okay to throw up to get rid of the alcohol?

It doesn't get rid of a ton of the alcohol. It's just the same effect as not having the last shot or two.

The reason people say that throwing up makes you drunker is that throwing up gets rid of a lot of fluids. The BAC formula is a pretty complex one, so it might make you drunker or it might not.

The best thing for your friend to do, whether or not she chooses to throw up, is to drink a lot of water. Processing alcohol takes a lot of water, otherwise you get hangover headaches.

And, she might not be openly bulimic, but she still might be bulimic. I'd ask her in a very comfortable environment how often she throws up besides her "alcohol trick." How'd she learn to vomit on demand? I don't know how to do that. Bulimia is a hidden disease.

Bad BAD idea. Making yourself throw up is never safe or healthy, but especially when you're drunk, it's easier to choke on your own vomit or rupture something from throwing up to hard.

This is gross, but many practicing bulimics learn what combinations of food/liquids come up easily. Someone who doesn't do it on a regular basis could really mess themselves up if they don't know what they're doing AND you're drunk and therefore less careful.

(BTW, bulimia is bad and dangerous. I'm not advocating it, I'm just trying to make a point)

I don't know about getting drunker, but throwing up will worsen the affect of the alcohol because it dehydrates you and so does drinking. Hello hangover!

Tell your friend to drink a lot of water and take an aspirin before hitting the sack. She'll be much less worse for the wear.

If she is forcing hersel to throw up then she IS a bulemic. Even if she only does it when drunk. Forced vomiting is a very serious problem which can damage your esophugus stomach lining etc. A young friend of mine has problems with ulcers now because of something like this. Talk to your friend about this - there are much better ways to deal with being too drunk every once in a while. (like lots of water before bed to help flush out your system). If she keeps doing this... you may want to contact someone that can help her. It may not seem like that big of a deal right now... but that kind of behavior is only one small step from a very problematic eating disorder.

Throwing up before sleeping will not keep you from being drunk or make you drunker. I suggest drinking a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you drink.

When drunk, the best thing to do is to eat an apple to remove any alcohol left and to drink lots of water to prevent hang overs.

As someone else said, it's not ok to force yourself to vomit. Your esophagus is not sturdy enough to handle the acid from your stomach, and neither are your teeth. Your esophagus and your teeth will show signs of wear after repeated vomiting.

The best idea is to limit your intake of alcohol so that you do not need to throw up.

She needs to ease on the drinking. Throwing up only brings up acids and and possible good fluids left in her system. Don't follow her lead.

oh gross me out!
Well no its not a good idea as it makes you dehydrated and really feeling like shiit! I would suggest she ease off on the booze and drink a gatorade and take a B12 Vitamin before going to bed!

It is NEVER good to force yourself to vomit, for whatever reason.
It doesn't really work either, since alcohol is absorbed quickly. She's be FAR better off to leave it there, and EAT something before bed.
