Am I too young to start applying scholarships? I am a freshman and I would like to get a head start.

If you are a freshman in high school, it is too early to start applying, because scholarships are only given out to seniors about to start college and to those already in college. It is not, however, too early to start looking into scholarships for which you might eventually be eligible, and to look at the requirements for those scholarships, so that over the next few years you can do what is necessary to make you a good candidate for them. If you are a freshman in college, on the other hand, you should certainly apply now Many, if not most, scholarships are given to incoming freshmen, but there are always others which are specific to students who are already performing well at the university. My department, for example, gives out 5 scholarships each year to juniors or seniors who have performed well academically and who are doing internships.

It is the time to get an idea of what college scholarships are out there. However, the vast majority are geared toward high school juniors and seniors. An idea is to look at school activities which will enhance your chances of gaining a scholarship, and I also recommend studying hard (keeping a GPA of at least a 3.0 or more). Volunteer work can look great, too. I have included some great websites for more information on the topic. Good luck!
