I always buy things at petsmart such as their toys cage and more stuff and I want to know what type of brand that is the best for parakeets.

I happen to like the Higgins brand seed. It is fresh and a good company. Also feed pellets, like Zupreem to help balance out the diet!

Hi there. There are pot seeds in some blends. They are usually referred to as hemp seeds. I even bought an organic brownie mix with hemp seeds in it. There is no THC in the seeds so no euphoric effects for the bird. Hemp seeds don't look like millet seeds at all. Birds do enjoy them as a treat. Pellet food is best. Studies show that an all seed diet leads to malnutrition. There is no set standard yet. The man who developed Zupreem also designed Science Diet for dogs and cats. I use 10% seed, 20% fruits and veggies and the rest pellets. Have a tweet year.

Higgins is a good brand that I feed our flock. I also like Volkman's, but it can be very difficult to find at times.

Pellets are good to substitute too as long as you feed a maintenance diet and avoid the ones that are filled with dyes, etc.

Nothing beats a prepared diet, though. Fresh fruits and veggies, sprouted seeds, grains, etc. Mimicking the diet the bird would find in the wild is the best way to go.

With all our birds, we prepare food every day, twice a day and mix in small amounts of seed and dry foods.

Everyone feeds differently and you'll always find varying opinions on it. :)
