Muslims are meant to respect all religions, and consider there to be a special link between Islam, Christianity and Judaism - because Islam teaches that both Jesus and Moses were Prophets of God and received Divine Revelation, and are therefore known in as Ahlul-Kitab, which in Arabic means 'People of the Book'. Mary, known as Maryam in Islam, is held on a very high esteem - as one of the greatest people in Islam's history. She is certainly proof that women are not considered second class in true, pure Islam as many people suggest!
By the way - the comment about Islam being invented by the Catholic Church...I don't want to be disrespectful but that's kind of laughable.

Some of these answers are pitiful.

Read what Muhammad wrote -it's the best thing on here.

And if Catholics started Islam then why don't we have statues? Why don't we say Mary is the "Mother of God" (Theotokos) the way they do? Wouldn't Catholics want people to be Catholic?

EDIT: Chris below me is only half-right. He doesn't know what Islam truly teaches...

Catholics have more in common with "bible" christians than with muslims. Muslims deny the divity of christ, the trinity, and a host of christian teachings ( i.e. turning the other cheek, monogamous marriage, loving thy enemy). You are so wrong.

good stuff mohammed

we belive jesusPBUH to be made out of flesh and bones he perfomed many miracles and he was not crucified as the christians believe.WE believe that he was lifted up to heaven and will return one day on this earth when there will be peace and harmony again then he will have a natural death as he is flesh and bones

we hold him in high regard and to not believe in him is against our belief but we do not believe he is the son of god

Muslims believe Mary was a virgin who gave birth to Jesus and in this sense, people were mislead into believing that Mary was the mother of God. Jesus was believed to be God because of the miracles he performed, much like Moses and Noah have done before him. Jesus was attributed a Godly status whereas we Muslims believe his power to perform miracles came from God, as well as the miracle birth from the virgin Mary, but he is just a man like all other men before and after him made of flesh and bones. Allah created the very concept of having a family and is independent of such relations himself.

It's not surprising - the Catholic Church started Islam to drive the Jews out of Palestine.

Muslims (and Islam) say Jesus was a prophet but they reject all His teachings ....that is hypocrisy.

They reject Christ's diety;
they deny his claim to be the Son of God;
they deny his death on the cross...
they deny His resurrection..
They deny Jesus is the Christ/ Messiah...
In fact, the Quran says : "Allah has no son".
Need I say more...?

Don't be deceived. The Islamic god is totally different than the God of Jesus Christ.

The Bible calls Muhammed and those like him false prophets:
"Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-Christ, that denies the Father and the Son. He that denies the Son, the same has not the Father." (I John 2:22)

42. And (remember) when the angels said, "O' Mary! Verily, Allah has chosen you, purified you (from polytheism and disbelief), and chosen you above the women of the universe."

43. "O' Mary! Submit yourself in obedience to your Lord (Allah, by worshipping none but Him Alone) and prostrate yourself, and bow down along with those who bow down."

44. This is a part of the news of the unseen with which We inspire you (O' Muhammad). You were not with them, when they cast lots with their pens as to which of them should be charged with the care of Mary; nor were you with them when they disputed.

45. (Remember) when the angels said, "O' Mary! Verily, Allah gives you the glad tidings of a Word ["Be!" - and Jesus was] from Him, his name will be the Messiah Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and in the Hereafter, and will be one of those who are near to Allah."

46. "He will speak to the people in the cradle and in extreme old-age( i.e. when he returns to this world), and he will be one of the righteous."

47. She said, "O' my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?" He said, "So (it will be) for Allah creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only, "Be!" and it is.

(3:42-47)

16. And mention in the Book (the Quran, O' Muhammad, the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a secluded place facing East.

17. She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Spirit (Angel Gabriel), and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.

18. She said, "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah."

19. (The Angel) said, "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son."

20. She said, "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?"

21. He said, "So (it will be), your Lord said, 'That is easy for Me (Allah): And (We want) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a Mercy from Us (Allah), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allah).' "

(19:16-21)

My views are positive.
