I really want to tame my three parakeets but I researched and it said that it's better to clip their because then they can't really fly well. But I don't know how. I don't want to go to the vet because my parents don't want me to go to an avian vet for them. A website would also be great. Tell me the materials that I need when clipping my parkeets wings and how to handle them when I'm clipping their wing feather. PLS help.

Make sure you are familiar with the feathers and what they are called. Only cut the first 8 primaries, and you need to watch out for blood feathers. It is not difficult to trim wings if you are shown how by an experienced person. An avian vet tech can show you how. I've seen some real butcher jobs by some pet store people and breeders, so be aware that there are a lot of people out there trimming, but doing a terrible job of it and even hurting some birds.

You need to watch an experienced avain vet or groomer clip flight feathers several times before attempting it yourself.
You also need two people to clip wings.
Also both need to know the correct way to towel and hold a birds safely.

The bones of a bird are filled with air only and they break easily. BIrds lungs are nothing like our's and if pressure is put on the chest they can't breath and die.

Some times you can find a great DVM that has a clientel of birds and is very experienced with working with birds that hasn't taken the time off from work to take the test to be a certified avain vet. My vet is not certifed and is far better than the four local certified avain vets in my area! I've been to all of them. Sooo, either call local vets and ASK if they have experience working with birds, or call bird stores and petstores and ask if the groomer's are experienced at grooming birds, then let them clip the flights and trim the nails of your bird.
Do it for the safety and well being of your bird.

First of all birds NEED to see an avian Vet bout 3 times a yr. But I'll give you some hints about what you can do to help your birds keep grooming to a minimum.
When you hold the bird, first remember they have no diaphram. So you put them in a little washcloth to make a sort-of pappoose. You can suffocate them to death with no towel. Cover their heads as well. Then you pull one wing out, and clip about a 1/3 to !/2 inch off the first five feathers at the top. I would suggest you try one before doing them all. The bird should be able to glide to the ground, but NOT get lift.
The beaks and nails can be taken care of most of the time if you buy only concrete perches for them to sit on! It keeps talons dull and most birds will rub their beak there as well.
Good luck to you. Oh, and remember. Birds like to be misted daily. They can take temperature changes, BUT NOT drafts.

Clipping wings is not difficult.
All you need is an assistant , a towel, and a pair of scissors.

But you also need to know which feathers to cut, and to not cut. Cutting a blood feather could cause harm or even death to your bird. So if you want to do it yourself , you need to be sure you know exactly what to do!

I know a Yahoo group which has several articles in its library on clipping wings, and the proper way to towel a bird. The group also has many experienced bird owners who could advise you on this. If you will E-mail me I will be happy to direct you to this valuable Bird lovers group.

Good Luck.

No, i do no longer. Clipping a birds wings is like making us no longer have the skill to apply our legs. that is only a private determination of mine to enable the poultry have finished flight. that is what they have been meant to do, so i do no longer mess with it. If I ought to, I clip the wings whilst i'm getting it used to me and the residing house, so it would not injure itself, yet after that preliminary era of getting used to each thing, i do no longer think of clipping in mandatory.
