A lot of people will tell you to lean your head back, this is the WRONG thing to do according to the medical experts.
What you need to do is calm down, try sitting if you can (sitting is optional), you want to apply a gentle pinching pressure to the bridge of your nose (the upper narrow part, (about mid-nose) not closing the nose holes (nares), you want to keep them open a little.) You shouldn't be pressing too hard and your chin should be down on your chest. Stay in this position for at least 15-20 minutes. Do NOT blow your nose for at least 2 hours. You may feel like you have a booger in your nostril, but it is probably the blood clotting. Letting it coagulate (harden) during this time is important. If you try to blow your nose or pick it, it could likely bleed again.
Quick recap, Head down, upper bridge of nose gently pinched (with nose holes open) for about 15+ minutes, and no blowing or picking afterwards.
Medically speaking, I hope this helps all who read this. :)

Never ever tilt your head back as this only drips down your throat to your stomach. Tilt your head forward while holding the bridge of your nose so it will clot and stop bleeding. In the meantime, use saline drops and a nose lubricator to keep the membranes moist in your nose. Good luck!

maybe its because you are in a hot climate and you need to turn on a fan or air condition or go for a breathe out side when you do have one get some tissue and hold your head back and blow you nose so it can come all out.

I used to have them when I was a little kid because of allergies and whatnot. (I lived in Central Texas.) Try Pantothenic Acid - its a supplement you can find at a vitamin store. If things get really bad, you might want to ask your doctor. I had to have the cartridge in my nose cauterized. (But definitely try the pantothenic acid - much easier and a lot less painless!)

Try eating some mustard, it should help.
Seriously. A spoon full. I live in the south, where it is hot and dry all summer and spring.

keep your chin elevated
if bleeding continously, put some clean cloth (not absorbent cotton) in your nostrils and leave a little space for you can remove it when the bleeding stops

I use tissues and tip my head way back until it clots. Some folks use that and ice as well. Seems to work for me quite well. Good luck to you.

If the problem is due to weak blood vessels then you could take citrus bioflavonoids to strengthen your blood vessels.

put a peice of cotton (i.e. cotton ball , toiletries) behind your upper lip , right under your nose , this is better then tilting your head back because you swallow blood when you do that , yuck !
