The Bible says to stay away from sorcerers and magic and soothsayers and the like! So Harry Potter is not O.K.

I am a christian and I think it is ok, I even recommend it. The sorcery in the Bible warned against is quite a bit different than what is depicted in Harry Potter, not to mention the magic in Harry Potter is secondary to the actual story of the book. The story encourages bravery, forgiveness, and self sacrifice, all major christian virtues. There is ultimate redemption, even eternal implications in the book, not to mention dealing with pain and suffering, and virtues, morals, and life lessons that all run right along with christian emphasis. Christians need to quit proving the naysayers right by knowing the letter of the Bible but not knowing the heart of the Bible. By the way didn't C.S. Lewis deal with magic, and magical powers? Was not their sorcerors/witch in the Narnia series and did not the wizard merlin appear in his science fiction series. Yet, no one denies that his books glorified Christianity. it is sad that we live in a time where people worships rules and can't see the heart of the matter. I disagree with the anti-harry potter campaign by the 'can't see the forrest for the trees' christians, and I will read the stories to my sons when they are older, and I believe the stories will be of a enhancing nature to what I hope will be faith some day in their lives.

I think Harry Potter is okay to read and enjoy as a part of entertainment because it's almost the same as going to a magic show or even going the movies. I'm not sure what you mean by 'okay' but I assume that it's not to practice wand making, sorcery, or piloting a dragon.

Ask anyone, including Christians, to run into a pillar to get to "Platform 9 3/4" and they'll think you're crazy. Enjoy the book as it is. Happy readings.

You should read the free "Signs of the Times" magazine that you find in the "free paper" stands on street corners. They have an article discussing this very thing, and whether Christians should be concerned about Harry Potter. I cannot reprint the entire article here.
If you don't have one of those stands, go to your nearest 7th-Day Adventist Church and ask for a free copy.

The Christians that I know that don't think it's OK are the ones that actually believe there are sorcerers and magic and supernatural powers in the world.

I think you should be able to do what you want if you can distinguish between what is real and what is not. I read all seven books and have seen all the movies that have been made so far.

No, the whole book is built on witchcraft, which goes against God. We should live our lives completely for God and all our decisions should glorify his name.
