It depends. When you start your PC you have a dual boot menu on screen? I mean is there a screen that can choose wich OS you want to boot in?
If yes then maybe you have some problems in the boot.ini file and MBR section of disk.

If not then you can just format one partition. I do it when I used windowsXP and 98 in a dual boot system. Formating the 98 partition had no problem.

But with XP is DIFFERENT. For example sometimes you can have windows XP Install on partition E: and files like
Ntldr
Ntdetect.com
Boot.ini
copied on partition C:

In this case if you format C: you may have problems load windows and ghet error message like
"NTLDR Is Missing". If you get this see here how to troubleshoot this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320397/en-us

But in most cases you can format one partition with no problem.

Also do that from within the other OS, so if the OS use files in the partition you want to format you will get a message like "can't format partition, cause in use"

Hi,

Since you have not mentioned which all operating systems y ou have got, It is pretty much difficult to explain but anyways I will try my best.

In case if you want to uninstall the operating system which is on your primary partition then u need to format this partition then itself this operating system can be uninstalled.

If you want to uninstall a operating system which is not on a primary partition then you can just do it by formating the partition and if the OS on the primary partition is Windows XP or Windows 2000 then you need to remove the entry for this OS from the boot menu this can be done by editing the boot.ini file. In order to edit this boot.ini file you can goto Control Panel then double click on System and then goto Advance tab and then click on Startup and Recovery Settings button and then click Edit to edit this file.

Hope this answers you question.
