Crime is present anywhere in the world. If you go by statistics, Sydney would have one of the lowest crime rates among the worlds major cities.
Even Blacktown has an undeserved reputation. I have lots of friends living peacfully in Blacktown, and proud of it.

I have never not felt safe in Sydney. There is crime there, there is in any city, but it doesn't affect most people. I would not consider any area of Sydney particularly dangerous but there are some areas with more problems than others. A friend of mine lives in Blacktown and I have been there frequenty on the train and walked to her house both during the day and late at night and have never seen any trouble.

Sydney would not have an exceedingly extreme crime value in assessment to different significant cities. there is an over concentration on so noted as ethnic crime that is appreciably reported in the media and which provides the impact of a relentless crime wave. it extremely is nonsense as Sydney is a somewhat risk-free city.

Like any large city around the world, there IS going to be some crime. However, I believe that if you are sensible about you getting around, Sydney is quite safe. Some BAD areas are The Rocks at night, Kings Cross at night, Redfern (esp. Indigenous Housing areas), and even the Cinemas complex on George street Town Hall at night (It is notorious for fights by drunken louts). If you are intent on going out late at night BE CAREFUL and get a cab home. But if you are a genuine Tourist and just get around to see the sights it will be fun and enjoyable.
Good Luck and enjoy SYDNEY !

right in the heart of sydney i have always felt safe. theres no gangs as such in the CBD and youd be fine. i feel less safe as i get away from the city, until i'm about 20-30 mins out of the city in the suburbs where it gets safer again (that's to the south). i never really head north or west, so i naturally dont feel as safe there, i think the west can be dodgy and the north is pretty good. but everywhere is generally safe
