kitten food is not necessarily better for them as adults. you might want to go ahead and give them adult cat food when they are old enough. because kittens and adults need different proteins and nutrients and the adult food and kitten food provide those different proteins and nutrients.

No, don't feed kitten food to adults. Kitten food isn't really even appropriate for kittens, but their higher metabolism is better able to soak up the extra calories. Adults will just get fat eating it.

Kitten food usually has 2-4% more "protein" than adult cat food. With the inexpensive foods you don't know the source of that protein. If it is not meat protein it's not right for any cat. Kittens do not need "different" proteins from adult cats, nor are there any "vitamins" in kitten food different from an adult food.
Many quality adult cat foods have 34-38% meat protein in their foods. Nature's Logic, Natural Balance, CA Natural, Solid Gold do.
There are two sites you can go to about proper cat/kitten nutrition:
http://littlebigcat.com - many articles in the article library on cat nutrition
http://maxshouse.com - Feline Nutrition has in depth nutritional analyses of cat nutrition needs.

Hi Jay,
No, kitten food is for kittens and young cats up to one year old. It is specially designed for young, growing cats. The adult cat has different needs from a growing cat. Once the kittens are one year old you can gradually introduce the adult food to them.
If you want the very best nutrition for your cats which is adapted to each stage in its life you could get advice from your vet; in the UK we have something called science diet, recommended by the vets, that caters for the needs of kittens, young adults, senior cats and even neutered cats! (I've tried to paste the link below.)

No, kitten food is too high in protein and calcium, as well as other nutrients that adults don't need at that level. Switch them over to an adult food at 9-12 months. Switch to a senior food at 6-8 years.

No it would not. Kittens need more of certain nutrients just like adult cats need more of certain nutrients. You need to adjust there eating on there needs.
