manny pacquiao is probably the top of the boxing world right now, he is filipino.. pretty boy floyd doesnt impress me at all, champions dont become true champions by counter punching.. I watched pacquiao destroy morales last fight, the mexican super-hero and next up is barrera the mexican iron jaw, i have no doubt that he will pepper his head with his fists of fury.. go pac man!!!

Philipinos have always had boxers that were world class talents. You must be a new boxing fan if you didn't know that. What you are experiencing is the popularity of manny pacquiao and the following that he has brought. But let's not get carried away and assume that this so called world cup of boxing is the gauge by which we measure who has better boxers overall. You'd have to agree that mexico has a much better record vs. the philipines when it comes to boxing, and I'm not even mexican. Yes those wins were impressive, but mexico regularly has about 5-10 champions at any given time. The U.S. leads in champions with mexico a close second. But I do admire those philipino fighters.

I believe no one country has the monopoly on world class talent. It's all about individual talent. Besides, Mexico has a longer roster of World Champions compared to the Philippines. Hopefully, the new generation of Pinoy boxers will change all that. As for the 5-1 standing, I give credit where credit is due, it was a good match. But I had predicted Boom Boom and Gerry wouldn't make it. Now I love Gerry Penalosa, I think he's the best defensive fighter to come out of the Philippines and was a fan of his from way back, but methinks he's way past his prime and got lucky on that last fight. Now he wants a rematch with De Leon and I say good luck, but I don't think a belt around his waist is gonna change the outcome of their fight. De Leon has way too long a reach for Gerry to overcome, and him being a defensive fighter means he''s always gonna lag on points unless his opponent stands in front of him and wait to get tagged. I'm afraid it'll just be a repeat of their last fight. I believe it's time Gerry retired. "Tama na bay."

definitely! the recent boxing world cup between mexico and Philippines only shows the era of mexican fighters being outshadowed by Filipino boxers and definitely no one will argue that Pacquio relentlessly destroyed all the well known mexican fighter on his division.

Definitely!!!
Finally, we get the respect due to our countrymen in the sport of boxing but it's all because of Pacman as he resurrected the sport in our country. Filipinos will get more opportunities in the States because of this and will eventually bring more belts to our country!
Mabuhay ang mga Pinoy!

convinced? I judge each man for his worth. that is truly what boxing is about, not his home address. A black guy from Jolly old England was a great champ in Lennox Lewis, it doesn't matter where you were born.

Filipino fighters seem to be very action packed fighters however mexicans are usually very durable. Either way they make for good fights.

Manny Pacquiao fight for the fan, he is exciting. Floyd Mayweather fight for himself, he run and jab himself to a boring decision.
