The credit card companies can petition the estate for payment

If there is money in the estate, then the estate pays all bills at probate.

If you are destitute and don't have any estate to leave, then the debts are written off by the credit holders.

Law varies by state about husband/wife situations where the wife can be left to pay off credit cards that were opened by the husband.

I've thought about running up the credit card and then somehow go missing. I think the bill will be terminated

whoever is left in charge of all your belongings and unfinished business (there's a name and i cant think of it -not beneficiary, but power of attorney i think)- gets all your debts too - that is what i heard
