I read somewhere, can't remember the source, that stress while eating is bad for one's health. Do mealtime companions who start arguments or criticize another person while the other person is eating cause digestive disturbances or Seyle syndrome like reactions in the person who is eating?

You present an interesting hypothesis. Ideally, mealtime should be a time of enjoyment and relaxation.

I'm not sure Selye studied the situation you describe. Mealtime would have to be quite contentious to produce adrenocortical hyperplasia and thymic involution.
