The majority of the world is stupid, and therefore it will never end. However, through education we can teach more people that that kind of ignorant and backward attitude is wrong and should not be tolerated. Where I am its very good, anyone who makes a racist comment can expect serious consequences from others in response for their bigotry. I see more abuse towards people for their racists, homophobic or sexists attitudes than I do towards the victims of the abuse.
It's improving, but it will take a long time before the racists become a insignificant minority.

EDIT- I read some of the comments above and then had to edit mine. Why are so many people involving religion as the solution to this?? Are they not aware that it was religion in the first place that sparked racism?!?! It claimed that white's were "superior" and it used that to justify slavery!
Note segregation was supported by religion because they claimed in the Bible "God made people different colours and put them on different continents and he intended them to stay seperate". Look up the Love vs Virginia case to end marital segregation and who opposed them? Religion.
I'm glad that this is not promoted anymore, but some die-hard Christians still think that way today. If you look at how badly they discriminated against gays now, it was pretty much the same 60 years ago, but against blacks.

It won't end until the world ends, when Jesus comes back. Until then, there will always be people that feel the need to judge others different from them. Human nature is to fear what we do not understand, so as long as humans are around racism will continue. The only way to stop without God would be to conform everyone, as in the plot of the book The Giver, and make everyone go through the same lifestyle everyday.

ra·cism

ra·cism [ráy sìzzəm]
n (disapproving)
1. animosity toward other races: prejudice or animosity against people who belong to other races “I am a Muslim and … my religion makes me against all forms of racism.” Malcolm X Speech, Prospects for Freedom 1965
2. belief in racial superiority: the belief that people of different races have different qualities and abilities, and that some races are inherently superior or inferior

In the sense that I think that on average certain races will be more adept at certain things, I'm a racist.

Edit: I mean, who would fair better on the equator, a black or white man?

Edit: Just like "black" and "white" people aren't really black and white, neither are the issues.

While there is still sin on the earth racism will exist. I wish it were different. There are too many other issues that we could solve (hunger) in this world. Why people waste their energy on race bashing is so sad. Jesus came so that we can love one another, not put each other down just because of race. We are all created by God, each one with a plan and He gave us each a special color.

Well there is no way of knowing that, coz racism isn't confined to an era, a nation or a certain kind of people. It is a choice that differs from individual to individual, and it sucks. I guess it's a kind of cancer which resides in individuals who can be anybody and it's their curse and their lack of tolerence, understanding and humanity. All i can say is, what goes around, comes around, coz we are all god's children and he is watching. So bad for them and good for us that we are not them. I pity the fools!

I wrote a paper on this for college that concluded racism against any particular group will end, but we keep coming up with more ways to divide ourselves. Hopefully we won't kill each other off before we realize that we all bleed red.

We could learn a lesson from dogs. They can help us end racism.

I may not be correct to describe people as different breeds but here goes.

We are from the same species but the breed we are determines how we appear physically and how we respond to each other. Dogs can be radically different in appearance but draw absolutely no distinction.

One dog sees another dog, they sniff and then they play. We don't sniff each other enough that's the problem.

Come on people ....let's get sniffing!

Free will. So people will always have their own ideas, beliefs, convictions... for good and bad. All we can do is help people open their minds and hearts. It's a big world with lots of different people. Narrow-minded people only look to their immediate surroundings and make their decisions.

Never. And the eyes of man are never full. Other answers have stated the obvious; when Jesus returns.

Racism is rooted in hatred and fear; sinful man cannot heal himself of sin. We all need a Savior. Do you know Jesus?

In His Service,
John the Baptist
