You can always rap with a rock band backing, and you get to straight rock out on some tracks if you wish. There are examples of this being good and it being bad, and it being successful and it not, which aren't necessarily the same thing. There are many 'rap-rock' bands that are great but aren't mainstream (which I suppose today denotes success) and ones that are mainstream but aren't, in my opinion good. Look at bands like
Linkin Park
Limp Bizkit
Ever Last
Fort Minor
Sublime
Gym Class Heroes
The Streets
The Roots
The Bloodhound Gang
All of these guys rap while still having a band and on some tracks do straight rock and roll. This way, its the best of both worlds. Just try not to rap about bling and women, do something meaningful to you. Good luck man.

Well rock is good it brings out the wild side in people. U could have alot of fun. But rap is good to i prefer rock because rap is a very dangeorus music the lyrics arent that meaningful but it has a good beat rap could get u in trouble u could get shot or somethin but rock is good THERE BOTH GOOD TRY ONE FOR A WEEK AND THE OTHER FOR A WEEK ask your band which one they like better then u pick one

I think rock appeals to people of a wider age span. I've been hearing lately on the news that rap is in danger of going out of business. I'd suggest stay with rock, or alternative. Alternative requires less music & you can focus more on the lyrics.

I agree with what most people are saying. Which are you most passionate about? Or if your passionate about both you should try a mixture of both. Like Shop Boyz, Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and so on. I persoally LOVE both (rap and rock) and therefore "Party Like A Rockstar Remix" is my all time favorite song of 2007!

imo I pay attention to the two yet as many of the different answerers reported, mainstream something won't be approximately something. The emotion, attempt and love/discomfort placed right into many of the hip-hop/rock I pay attention to truly speaks volumes, almost on an emotional point. some purely sound so good you immediately like it; and that's the place i elect this, all merchandising campaigns obtainable(that's what I call the mainstream drones obtainable, previous present day and destiny) are not bombarding you with something to enhance your life in any way, shape or sort. Talib Kweli mentioned it suitable:"life without awareness is dying in cover!" once you pay attention a music, no remember the kind and you get something out of it that's once you recognize the message conveyed by utilising the artist/s did their activity suited, climate if it grew to become into the sampling, the association or maximum particularly the words; with that mentioned and to the touch lower back on the affection and discomfort that an artist is showing, climate that's a damaging early life they had, an issue with poverty or maybe approximately somebody they love, you may relate in some way(heck! you may even purely be on acid and listening to the mars volta and discover ways to look at issues in a various way than the preconceived way of your atmosphere.) No disrespect meant to you the asker, i admire hip-hop(and not that fa**ot, bitc# sh!t they play on the radio) I additionally love steel/rock too yet as a lover of track it does not provide up there, classical, vocal, prog, opera, jazz, blues, '70's R&B, something with something smart at the back of it. track is a large area of my life besides(i'm a DJ(vinyl spinner for all times) i'm additionally a drummer, pianist and violinist)yet I even have continuously keen to listening to what touches me and not something compelled upon me. i won't be able to truly say that's my fave yet i like 'em the two.

I've got an awesome solution for you -- Linkin park -- rap rock sounds soo good, its not just pointless screaming, or made up words talking about what a womans *** looks like when you're drunk or on drugs.

Personally, I like rock, but you could start a band like the gym class heros, who do everything, rock, rap , hip-hop, they are a combo........just do what you love
