Taurus pt 92/96, 24/7
Springfield Armory XD Tactical Series
EAA Witness
Of course it all depends on the gun shop or web site you buy it from. I go my XD .45ACP Tac. for about 580 after taxes and all the IL bullsh@#.

You are very vague as to what you want this for....no other requirements except a 5" barrel and under $550.
I have more pistols than I can count on both hands and have owned or shot many more and nothing is as accurate as a Browning Hi Power that's been fitted, polished and tuned with new springs.
So here's my pick...an Argentine made HP, made at a FN factory. Get it polished on the mag lips and feeding ramp and get a set of Wolff Springs and a couple of South African 17 round magazines. Have it Dura-coated in dark Parkerized gray and pick some Houge grips.

Well, Rock River Arms used to offer a new, plain jane 1911 .38 Super w/5" barrel for under $500 but I'm not sure if it is still available. If it is, it might also be available in .45 acp. Worth checking. In .9mm you might find a P-35 Browning Hi Power clone for under five also. I believe that the barrel is just under 5" though.
Good luck.

Taurus is a great deal, as has been already mentioned. EAA Witness are good. Ruger handguns aint real purty but they shoot good and in almost any conditions.Ruger would be my choice..

I like my Glocks. They're extremely reliable, but they're not a "pretty" gun. They're a workhorse though. I wouldn't buy a Taurus. My buddy bought a PT111...definately not reliable.
