Is it the same as usa money except with the uk sign in front of it?

Isn't it awful when sellers of other countries don't show the Sterling equivalent. They should know we are ignorant and lazy. I don't know what the exchange rate is just now but a rule of thumb was to half the Dollar and then you have the Sterling equivalent. $40 = £20 approximately, or near enough.
