Yes, you are permitted.

Halal food means no pork in it.

Also, the animal should be slaughtered according to islamic rites to be halal (of course only the animals which are considered halal)

Yes it is okay. It is meat that muslims can eat but anyone can handle just wash your hands and not let the meat be contaminated by juices from non halal meat or let non halal meat touch the halal meat and keep all utensils clean before cuttting..

Sorry, I know you said that you didn't want a religious rant - but here it is...

Halal meat (and Kosher meat) is, in my mind, totally unacceptable. If animals need to be killed for meat, then they should be slaughtered in the least painful way possible and as quick as possible. Muslims have a lot to answer for. They are cruel to animals and they are not really very nice to their own kind either. I say, forget the muslims. They are living in a Christian country and if they do not like the food they serve. Tough. The same goes for Jews and Kosher meat.

Sorry, but they are my feelings on the subject. Now, I am preparing for the big "thumbs-down"!!

Yes you are, unless you want to serve the meat raw.......
It doesn't make a difference if it's halal or not when you want to cook it, it's still meat, same taste and everything. It's just killed differently

Yes... just make sure it doesn't get cut up/cleaned or cooked with non-halal meat.

I'm not an expert, but as I understand it, halal refers to how the meat was slaughtered, not cooked.

Yes, as long as you do not mix it with other meats and observe the rules for preparation (which to be honest I am not familiar with in details, you would need someone who knows the rules to help you with that one).
