Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the skin. It can be fatal if not treated. You will see a red area on the skin that is swollen, hurts and feels hot. Left untreated, this area will grow larger. While it is spreading on the skin, it can also be spreading underneath! Early treatment involves oral antibiotics.

If treatment is delayed, hospitalization is required so that antibiotics can be given intravenously. Usually a broad spectrum antibiotic is used.
