well there are a couple of ways to do it. There is chemical straighening, then at home straightening(not permanent though) and the latest is Yuko hair straightening also known as the japanese hair straightening or rebonding or thermal reconditioning.
Where i live the Yuko hair straightening costs around 900$'s for hair upto waist.

do you mean a specific name? well there are three types, the popular regular straight perm, which is like a normal perm except your hair is combed straight instead of set in rollers, which lasts for around 6 months which i believe would cost around 30 dollars, a relaxer which is popular in the african american community which would last for around 6 months as well though i am not sure of the price and finally japanese hair straightening or thermal reconditioning, this process is known to take from 2-6 hours but is permanent and causes the least damage out of all types of hair straightening. it is very expensive normally ranging from 150-600+ and requires a skilled professional to do it
hope this helps good luck!

Well, i think that it is just called Hair straightening. i had shoulder-length brown, curly, poofy hair, and i went to the salon, and i got it straightened. the price depends on the kind. i got the strongest kind, which cost about $400, but you can also get it cheaper for about $120 or less. When you ask how long it lasts, it depends on you hair growth. I did my hair in May 2006, and the part that grew back(new hair) is curly, but the part that i didn't cut from last year is still straight. so, it all depends on how fast your hair grows. Also, for me, it took about 5-6 hour hours, with 2 people working on my hair at the same time, but it was worth it.

Basically they use the same chemicals for straightening your hair as they do for curling it. The difference is putting the rod in vs letting it hang and while it is hanging they comb through it peridocally to make it stay straight.
