I like Saucony and Asics, but the best shoe is the best shoe for YOUR feet.

There is no "best" shoe. Don't be fooled by the marketing.

It's the "best shoe for you" that you're looking for. Go to a running store, talk with a salesperson. A good store will want to have a look at your feet, many will put you on a treadmill to watch you run. Use the Internet to hunt for running stores in your area, look for one that offers gait analysis. Expect to pay a bit more for this kind of help, but once you find the right shoe you can buy replacements on the 'net for a lot less.

Narrow feet with a high, stiff arch need extra cushioning. Flat feet with a wide, flat arch, may indicate overpronating, which can cause bad knee pain (IT Band ailments) and need a wide, supportive shoe. Don't just get a brand you've seen advertised, get the right shoe within the brand. New Balance makes shoes in a variety of widtsh, up to 4E on many models. Brooks makes some great supportive shoes for flat feet (Addiction and The Beast) ... Mizuno makes a great shoe for narrower feet.

Running shoes do not "break in" much. What you bought is what you got. So make SURE the shoe is comfortable. Jog around the parking lot. Wear the socks you'll wear running.

Good luck.

The best road running shoe is one that fits your feet and gives you the cushion and support you need. All major brands make good shoes. Try some on and see what works best for you.
