that's why some retired athletes suffer from joint problems, from so much stress on them. that's why it's recommended to take rest in between the week, to build up back. after some years, i'm sure the cartilages have unreversable harm. [everything has it's price]

If we wear out our joints then maybe we should sit inside and watch t.v. for a long healthy life. Any activity can cause injury and wear and tear, but running correctly with good shoes does not cause problems, unless you are unfortunate enough to have a disorder or weakness that is noticed because of your training. Many people run for over 50 years and never have any joint problems. Some people have problems from the beginning.

everything can have a downside but this problem isn't just to do with running other sports can cause the cartilage to wear down as well. If your worried about this then make sure when you run run on softer ground such as grass or a track as opposed to pavement, this will also help if you have a problem with shin splints.

You know I thought about that too. I think if you run a certain way with your feet hitting the ground toe-heel instead of heel-toe (or is it the other way around?), it lessens the impact. Also running on a treadmill I think has less impact on your knees than running on pavement or on a trail. But that's just my guess, I don't really know.

Don't sweat it. Get good equipment, yield to your injuries, and you'll be fine. You can live with bad joints, but it's harder to live with a bad heart.

Good Luck
