Christianity which is not based on Christ has to be 'something else'.
Mithras, ancient Indo-Iranian god of light and truth Mithras seems to have been identified with the sun.
Mithraism was an Iranian religion practised by the Romans, made an imperial cult under Commodus (180-192).
Christ was not based on Mithras. His representation was that of a Bull. Christianity has firmly established such graven images as not being worthy of worship since Moses and the Burning Bush.

As a philosopher Jesus was cool. Problem is, some think he was a God!
He said "Do onto others as you would onto yourself."
This checks with Karma from Hinduism which influenced Buddha, ( and later we'd say "what goes around comes around")
In the end responsibility is the only attitude for any self- respecting adult. That means (BOIL ALL YOUR COMMANDMENTS DOWN INTO ONE!)
1. If I do this, will it make the world a better place?, or if everyone were to do so, would it improve how we all live.
Mithras, wasn't he the guy who invented light bulbs or started the fire, or was that a Japanese car company, or something. No, it was Mazda.
I'd like to have a Zoroastrian burial.Up a tree on a pallet, let the birds pick my flesh, then feed my bones to the dogs.
At least I'd have done something for the ecology
P.S. Anybody want to hear/read some good Jesus jokes

Christianity is based on Jesus Christ. Without a belief in Christ you can not be a Christian. You can follow a multitude of Doctrines or a multitude of Religions BUT to be a Christian you must follow Christ. Christ IS the basis not Mithras.

You cant follow any kind of Christianity if you don't believe in Jesus.
I mean take the name for example. Its called CHRIST-ianity. Jesus is a main pillar in the beliefs of true christianity. If you have a religion that says it is christian but denys Jesus Christ, it is not christianity plain and simple.
The main core belief that all Christians hold is Jesus Christ was the son of God, he lived a perfect life which made him the perfect sacrifice for our sins, he was crucified on the cross, and on the third day he rose again and he will return again.
If you dont believe in Jesus, then you'll have to find another religion.

That depends on who you believe Jesus was. I think the whole point of God giving us free will was to allow us the opportunity to connect with'Him (Her). We also can conceptualize God in the way that is most meaningful also. No human has the capacity to say, "This is what God is" because the creator of all is more than our minds can understand. We look to Jesus as more than just a person. According to the Bible, and mentioned in several places, we each have something of the 'Christ' in us. That is a place of transcendance that we should all aspire to. Was Jesus the product of a Virgin birth because God, as some distant entity, manifested him in Mary's womb? Or was he a person, that through deep dedication to moving closer to being that which we are all created to be, became what he said we all have the capability to achieve. I don't beleive that God is some distant entity that looks over us as a father looks over his children. Scolding and disapproving when our behaviors are unsatisfactory to him. We do enough of that to ourselves when we fail to live up to what we know is right. We are no place that God is not, we just sometimes fail to let ourselves connect. God is imminent, here always presnt waiting for us to reach out to be guided by spirit and the Christ nature that indwells in each of us. Who was Jesus? He is the person who lived an exemplary life, transcending the frailties inherent in human nature in each of us and manifesting the Christ spirit and demonstrating through his life how it is possible for us all to live a better life. If you can get with that, then you do believe in Jesus.

There are some Christians who do not believe that Jesus is God, or the son of God, and have a hard time believing in the virgin birth and the Resurrection. They believe that he was a great teacher, but not in his divinity.
The most obvious are the Unitarian Universalists, who are believe that instead of centering their religion on specific beliefs, they share moral values that include the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

According to the bible Jesus was a Jew. Jews believe in the same God Christians do, and indeed founded Christianity. They believe Jesus was a prophet, not the son of God. Muslim's also believe this.

The Kingdom Gospel he preached is not based on believing in any one person to save you... that is a misconception.
Look at the parable of the Prodigal Son. The son just remembered that his father was almighty and wealthy... so he turned around and went home!! We are all children of God, so all we have to do is get that memory back of our rightful inheritance.
