Why are you an atheist? Why don't you believe in God? To those of you who believe in God please explain why you do believe in God so that these atheists may have reason to consider a change in their ways.

I did not say anything about which religion or which God. I just said God. Is that so hard to understand? See the problem with atheists is that you are closed minded and you assume I am referring to a certain God. Just cause I am Christian does not mean I am pushing Christianity. Just answer why you are atheist. Is that too hard?

Ok. I'm a Christian because Jesus died and rose again. And I have been healed many times by him. You guys can believe whatever you want. You atheists can believe whatever you want, but I know your wrong.

Okay then.

a) there are thousands of gods recorded in human history. No, they're not all the same one, you can verify this by looking at their attributes. I also don't see any reason or evidence that any one of them provides that makes it 'more real' than the others. Your holy book and miracles are no better or different than the holy book and miracles of say, the Hindi.

b) this is a natural and on the macro scale deterministic universe (e.g. you drop a ball on earth, it will be attracted in the same way every time you drop it). We know this as we use this dependability to base, well, almost everything on it. To give a small example, your computer couldn't function without it. A supernatural being (such as a god) would stick out like a sore thumb. Yet its all faith and no proof (for all the mentioned gods)

c) Unless you are a young-earth creationist (in which case this discussion is pointless and I laugh at you) you concede the earth is a couple of billion of years old and evolution, while not fully understood, is what shapes life on this planet (note that I have no idea how life got started). Natural selection is one of the cruelest methods if it were design. Some 99% of species have gone extinct. Hardly the work of a beneficial god.

I could go on for a while but I've got to get to work.

i am an athiest becasue I see no reason, evidence, or logic in changing my mind. people have brought up the infamous "wager" to me, but i think if I were to follow a religion out of fear and half-heartedly that would be worse than having none at all.

I do not put faith into things I can not see. I have studied history enough to know how much man can screw up writing something down. I have studied science enough to know that at least SOME small things in the Bible HAVE to be incorrect. I have studied the bible enough to find contradictions I can not reconcile (ie: what was the last thing Jesus said, whose account do you believe?)

and aside from that, I have found NO God, in any religion or culture, that is a God I would follow. each and every one has a mean, vindictive, petty, hateful, or venegeful side. any God I would believe in a trust would be free of all emotion, especially the "bad" ones.

Mom's father was a pastor, so I was taught his Christianity from the time I was born. My siblings believe it is a sin to question the family religion, but I saw errors in the Bible at age 7. I just could not believe all this stuff even when I was a child. As I grew older and wiser, I saw ever more flaws in the Bible. I studied other religions too, and I saw all were unreal. I do not "believe" anything, because a "belief" is an "idea accepted without any proof". I insist upon "knowing" by looking at all available evidence, and there is no logical evidence that any gods exist, whether one means Yahweh Moses' god (God in English, Dieu in French, Gott in German, Kami in Japanese, etc.), Allah of Islam, Ahuramazda of Persia, Brahma of Hinduism, etc. Why don't you believe in these gods? Aha, because they are not real! Well, your deity is not real either. I do not believe in your deity for the same reason you do not believe in Ahuramazda.

There are many reasons i believe in.

1. If there is a god why does he kill (natural disasters etc) and let people be killed (let people cut eachother open etc)

2. Say for example i'm a christian - i die, i go to up (i was good) and Jesus says i can come cme ito heavn suddenly Allah comes over and says yes but you didnt follow all my rulesyou shall go to hell - it goes on and on.

3. I'm no geek or science crazy guy, but look at all the scientific evidence - it's overwhelming.

Somebody give me solid facts and evidence supporting "the correct religion" and maybe i'll change my mind.

I live in a very multicultural area and i have seen enough religion waved in my face - If people want to learn about other religions they will ask. I think we should scrap RE lessons with something more educational - and if they do carry on doing RE we should also learn about people who use common scence and not a sixth scence

I think the number of atheists you see on Yahoo Answers reflects then number of atheists in the general public. But because there is a level of privacy many people have no problem expressing their opinions here. Being an atheists is ok. Why do religions people feel the need to have everyone "believe"?

Can you be more specific I don't know which god/gods you want to hear about my non-belief in?

I don't believe in Zeus, there just isn't enough physical proof, I also have problems with Vishnu, just cannot wrap my mind around that one.

Oh I'm sorry, were you referring to your Christian god? No, I don't believe in that one either, and for the same reasons as the other ones, no proof. But you should be more specific, there are more than one out there..

I'm atheist. I don't believe in god because there is no proof, no logical explanation of the existence of god. I became an atheist because as a child I realized that there was no one listening when I prayed.

I am not surprised that there are more atheists on Yahoo Answers than in the general population. In order to post here you have to be able to read, write, and operate a computer.
Likewise, I find that the posts by atheists are often well written, while the posts by believers are likely to contain more spelling and grammar errors.
In other words, the best tool for converting us to a religion might be a lobotomy.

"...please explain why you do believe in God so that these atheists may have reason to consider a change in their ways."

LOL :) We atheists have heard it thousands of times on here; it's not about to change our minds.

To answer the question you put to atheists, I don't believe in god, not yours, nor any other version, because it is illogical, irrational, and improbable, and man-made. I have been an atheist all of my life.

many human beings declare to be atheists, yet you recognize what? There are not any atheists in fox holes. there's a manner which finally leads to life the Bible says, yet few there are who discover it. God isn't prepared that any could perish yet all could come to repentance. Its own selection, the two human beings hear to rumour and get stimulated with the international, or they hear to what God has to assert. for this reason, guy is without excuse.
