I want to take my 2 year old son on a ferry ride, but need something short. The trip to Staten Island would be too long. Any ideas? Need info on where to get on and off, how long the trip is, etc. We don't really need to go anywhere special - it's more just the expereince of being on a boat for him

I think you're better off with the Staten Island Ferry. It's free, for one thing, and a two-year-old should be fine, because there's plenty of room; it's not like he has to sit still the whole time. And you can't beat the view of lower Manhattan on the ride from Staten Island.

Either the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Ferry. Or the New York City Water Taxi. Its a form of transportation, making something like 12 stops, and it hits the major tourist attractions. Or theres always a Circle Line Cruise, but I wouldnt take a 2 year old on there, too long.

Circle Line and Inetours cruise lines offer sightseeing cruises that circle Manhattan. The guided cruises take visitors on boat trips around New York City, exploring New York's history and culture. If you'd like an adult cruise with good food, relaxing music and a romantic atmosphere, join a Spirit Cruise boat ride that provides romantic daytime and nighttime cruises out of New York Harbor. In addition to learning about New York on the cruise, you can relax and enjoy the delicious food, fine wines and romantic atmosphere of these cruises

Call NY Water Taxi @ 212-742 -1969 and see what they know.
They run ferries to Brooklyn from the South St Seaport.

I would suggest the statue of liberty. it would take you about 15 mns from the bowling green station. Train 4 and 5 will take you to the station.
