I am a 100% believer dont get me wrong. But the notion kinda is annoying and I have heard it from preachers and maybe its written in the bible too.

Id love reading educated answers, but if you're using this opportunity to vent out your own ignorance and frustrations, try somewhere else.

So selfish He was nailed to a cross by a bunch of rejects so that we could have eternal life.

Don't get me wrong, I know what you mean, but lets keep everything in perspective here.

Not sure if you've ever read Jonathan Edwards but he suggested God's selfishness is what attracted us. God is selfish when it comes to your adoration. Coveting, false idols, these are attempts to direct the adoration to other and lesser things. If you believe that God MADE those things, you can start to appreciate why it'd be reprehensible.

Say you gave someone a gift, let's say, a NIntendo Wii. But they didn't thank you for this gift - they thanked Nintendo. Doesn't that seem misguided? Wouldn't you think: "Nintendo put it in a box and charged me for it. It was -I- that spent hard-earned money with love for that person. In God's case, he created nintendo. And you created the opportunity for the person to receive the gift.

If that answer doesn't sit well with you, then just ignore all references to God's selfishness and make sure your praise and appreciate are rightly directed. That'll take care of it. :)

While I don't know your situation, and while many say so many things in the Church, I will stand for truth in this, God is a jealous God, he gave his son so that we can be free from the evil of sin, he set in motion rules for us to live by so we can enjoy life and be safe from harming others or ourselves, many say he kills, but there is more compassion in the bible then death, God is not selfish, he allows us to make a choice, that choice determine our fate, he allowed you to be born, and me as well, no my friend, he is loving, if we live our life like he don't exist, then that is our place in death, a place were God don't exist is hell, Preachers some not all focus on prosperity, and not truth, he gives us what we need, to believe he his selfish, is a state of a hurt soul, I will keep you in prayer, we must allow him to be God a drive on in our lives, God loves you, and me, while things seem unclear, he does give answer to it. It is not written he is selfish, he jealous and he loves.

I understand where you're coming from, because when we think of selfishness, we think that's a bad quality. But we have to remember that God is not like us. His ways are much higher than ours. He deserves all of the glory. God IS a selfish God.

Exodus 20:
3 “You must not have any other god but me.
4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.

The Lord is selfish in requiring our worship and obedience, but He is not at all selfish with His love for us. Remember He gave us His son Jesus to be our redemption.

By definition, God is the only eternal, supernatural, omnipotent, omniscient consciousness that existed prior to the existence of the universe. He is responsible for planning the way the universe is and for everything that happens in the universe. He is independently needless, but nevertheless he demands recognition from humans and can be insanely jealous, irate and homicidal if someone chooses to worship a cow instead of Him.

I've heard that God is a jealous God, but selfish? Haven't heard that one. I would say it's just people that aren't Christian.
Most people aren't supportive of God because they don't like that you go to Hell for not accepting Him. That might be where the selfish accusation kicks in.

That would be the Demiurge, not God but that's in part of the scriptures that were tossed out by humans so the scriptures could be used as a political tool. God could care less about politics.

Jesus died for you is that selfish? Maybe you are wondering why God would send his only son to die but God has his reasons he's not selfish he loves us. He knows what is best for us. I used to cry because I went out with guys and right after I prayed to stay with each of them something bad would happen to our relationship. Then I realized long after that God just knew someone else was meant for me.

God is a Generous God, he is a jealous God as well, he is in no way selfish. He is very giving, loving and caring.

he is not selfish, but the Bible does say that he is jealous. Exodus 20 refers to him as a jealous God that does not want his people to worship other gods or idols.

God is imaginary. But if there was a God like the God in the Bible, yes, he's not only selfish ("Worship and praise me and do exactly what I say but not what I do in the Old Testament.....") but psychopathic ("...and if you don't you will be tortured in hellfire forever and forever with no chance of ever being shown mercy bwah ha ha ha haaaaaaaa!"). None for me, thanks.
