I live in Florida. My daughter is mature and my son is almost 7. I haven't done it yet. She will be 13 in February. Should I wait?

I think the law where I am is that you can leave an 11 year old in charge so long as the adult returns that same day.

I think a 12 year old girl is more responsible and I would feel comfortable leaving my child with a 12 year old for a short time.

My babysitter started when she was 13 and she watched my children as infants while we went to a show. I don't think I'd leave my child more than 3 hours though.

Chuck E. Cheese may be a lucrative place, but it would be more of a "take a baby girl and leave your son behind with a note" instead of an actual trade. Your son will be fine as long as you give him a lot of tokens to show how much you love him. Just remember that you can't trade back when your 15 year old daughter comes home pregnant, or becomes a stripper. You are on your own.

I think leaving your daughter (12 yrs old) with your son is fine. I know I was very mature at 12 too! I don't know what the rules are though, but if you trust your daughter to do a good job go for it. I guess this would be a test on her too to see if she can handle it.

I personally 12 is fine. I am in Wisconsin and a foster parent. The foster children must be 12 to be home alone by laws but there are no laws for non-foster children in wisconsin. all depends on the child.

She should be fine... just make sure she has a phone and list of numbers to call. I have a sister in law who when she leaves for a few minutes she gives her girl a cell phone that she knows how to use so she can get ahold of someone if needed.

I think they should be fine. I stayed home for a few minutes by myself at the age of ten. Gotta cut the cord sometimes. Lol.

I didn't mean that to be mean or anything...lol.

to be honest there are only 2 states(Illinois and Maryland) which have laws on the subject. all the others say it is up to the parent to decide if the child is mature enough.

so if you feel they are mature enough, go for it!

It might be illegal...I think the child has to be 16 to be left alone but im not sure...but if your only gone a few minutes and your daughter is mature they should be fine.

you must be really unsure to post this question! This sort of thing is something that only the child's parents can decide (if it is legal). Do what your parental instinct is telling you, you know your children and what is right for them!!
