I am a molecular biologist, and a Christian. I work in a lab full of atheists. I try to reason with them regarding this question, but I don't get any solid answers. Some say to strengthen the human race and select for a more intelligent population. What do you think?

GREAT question!! I would HATE to think there was no point for my existence....why bother to "be good" or to "love"..for what ultimate reason? I am SO glad there is a reason and that it is to glorify MY God! Thanks for asking.

I think you are fixated on there having to be a point to our existence. Why does there have to be a point or purpose? We're just here, accept it. And I have no idea how you can be a good molecular biologist, but keep some tiny part of your brain separate from reason and logic. There is no god, god does not exist.

The same point can be asked if God created us, what's the point? A part from his own ego. A need to be obeyed, because that is what God is about if he exists. Your existence is to pander to his need for control of you. So, given the two reason we may be here I'd take the no point one as the other is still a no point one!

Without God, there is no point. Nothing matters. And there is no reason for hope, because we all just die and decay. In the scheme of human life, there are VERY few who will matter to anyone but their own family. Life is all about increasing pleasure and decreasing pain. It is absolutely empty and meaningless.

Thank GOD I belong to Him. Thank God my life matters and that I have a reason to hope, a reason to live my life in a way that glorifies Him. Praise Jesus!

To kick and claw our way to the top of the food chain.

We just evolved. The necessity to find reason and purpose behind all of this is the price we pay for having big brains and opposable thumbs.

I have been wondering my whole life why I exist. How can anyone know for sure?
All we have are our five senses to detect things around us. It is highly possible we are missing some things going on around us.

i feel that all the emotion expressed for God - love, respect, reverence, etc - should be shown to our communities, friends, and family.

i think that because we only get 1 chance at life, with nothing beofre or after it, it makes it that much more special. we only have ONE shot to leave an impact, to be the best we can be, and with no promise of reward or puinishment it makes it that much more noble (in my opinion) that we choose to do so.

We exist in order to propagate the human species.

there is no "point" to our existence that can be defined from the outside.
i know that's troubling to some people. those people prefer to get their answers from the outside and turn to dogmatic religions.
but the meaning of life comes from within us, from our relationships, and that is up to us to define and create. it's not easy, but ultimately it's more meaningful that getting your answers from someone else.
