Well I was attacked by 2 Doberman's 6 weeks ago and landed myself in an E.R. with 14 stitches... so I can definitely relate to body image concerns with scarring. Main point to learn, it's never a good idea to cut... no good comes from hurting yourself no matter how sad & depressed you are... assuming that you know it's a mental condition and sought appropriate counseling, then you can focus your thoughts on scar tissue. Best and easiest remedy: Vitamin E oil and Mederma Scar Gel (I bought the Walgreen's generic brand for cost reduction b/c it's a little pricey). Another big thing to remember, as the scar heals, that's new fresh skin that is a lot more susceptible to sunburn than your other skin areas so always wear sunblock on the scars when you're outside or you'll regret it. The Scar Gel and / or Vitamin E Oil will really help reduce the appearance over time, but it may take awhile. Hope that helps... and take care of yourself ;)

I had some scars on my legs too (from psoriasis) after it was treated. I was really annoyed and embarrassed during last year's summer as I really wanted to wear skirts/shorts. However this year I've noticed that the scars are really faded and almost invisible and I think this is mainly due to nature and sunshine. Although I did use some vitamin E oil on them for a while which could be a helping hand. Some of my family members who have scars/marks also use it and it seems to actually work really well! The one they use is E- Oil Natural from the health shop Holland & Barretts (UK).

I went on their site and it says:

Use this remarkable product in your daily beauty care - inside and out. Don't let a day go by without giving your skin the benefits of pure Vitamin-E Oil of mixed tocopherols derived from natural vegetable oils. Each dispenser bottle contains 24,000 I.U of Vitamin E. This natural Vitamin-E Oil, in a base of natural wheat germ oil, will nourish and protect the skin with its fabulous moisturising action. Natural lemon flavour. So pure it can be take orally. SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS AND VEGANS.

Hope this helps!!!

Scars USUALLY self-reduce with age. There's a limit to that, and they rarely fully dissapear on thier own. You can have scar reduction surgery by a cosmetic surgeon. there's assorted methods used from abrasion to skin grafting. There's assorted creams that claim they will reduce scars. Peope tend to apply them within the first year after the injury/surgery that caused the scar. Because of that, the creams are just about guaranteed to work, since the scars practically always look better after a year than they did within a couple of weeks of the accident/surgery. Preventing the formation of a large ugly scar is the best answer and that means proper wound care. Stitching to pervent having a wide gap to bridge with scar tissue. Applying a creme such as NeoSporin which helps prevent infection will help prevent formation of large ugly scars.

I happy for you that you stopped hurting yourself by cutting.....I would recommend that you see a dermatologist (if you have any type of health insurance) and they will assist you with a variety of options that will help you either eliminate or lessen the appearance of the scars that you have......some might go away with time, depending on your skin type, others might need a more aggressive approach to minimize the scaring......I'm glad to hear that you have sorted the things out that were troubling you in your life........Best of luck, and believe in the power of positive thinking......It works!!!
