Potty training usually doesn't happen until 3 years. My daughter who is nearly 3, is still not completely potty trained. Still has accidents.
Learning how to form words is actually a very difficult task, but you need to ensure that he begins talking as much as possible. Language milestones include approximately six words by 16 months, two word phrases by 18 months, and three-word phrases by 24 months.
Is he around other children on a regular basis? If not, you may want to consider preschool a few days a week. This may encourage his speaking skills since other little ones just like him will most likely be talking too.
Also consider introducing ASL (American Sign Language). See link below. Say the word as you sign. He is not too young for ASL. My daughter was signing words before she could speak them around 13 months. Now, she doesn't really use signs anymore, which is not important because she know enough words to make her point. Sometimes you also have to just listen and pretend you understand even if the babble makes no sense. Just being heard is often enough. I have noticed that boys tend not to talk as much as girls so I think it's normal. Also make sure you are talking to your son face to face. This is really the best way for him to see how you form the words. You may also want to talk with a doctor about normal development. Also see links below for additional tips.
