I'm going to sound totally hopeless here and please bear in mind that I don't cook that often - so not really a silly question - just trying to be safe :-). Anyway, I'm making chicken casserole for dinner and stupid me thought I had the oven pre-heating but after browning the chicken and getting veggies ready etc. I realised oven wasn't on.. it heats up pretty quickly but does the fact that the browned chicken was sitting in a not hot oven for a few mins make a difference (obviously the chicken was still warm when put in)..., will it be safe to eat when ready and yes, I am blonde! ;-) Sorry for silly question and thanks for advice in advance.

Bacteria won't destroy a meal like that so quickly. Just make sure you cook the chicken to an internal 180 degrees after such an incident and it will be fine.

DO NOT just go on what people say about time...it's the internal temperature that ensures the safety of your food.

It should be fine in the extra couple of minutes it took to actually pre-heat the oven. I've committed far worse food safety faux pas than that and nobody got sick.

It should be fine. maybe leave the casserole a bit longer. Does it matter if you eat a bit later?
You not silly, even the top chefs make mistakes. They just don't admit it!

No, it will be fine! You only have to worry when you leave Raw chicken out for long periods of time. And also... make sure to not cross contaminate foods! Like cutting veggies on a cutting board that u used for raw chicken, and havent cleaned it.

No. Problems only arise when cooked food has been sitting around at room temperature for ages and it is eaten without being reheated. That's when bacteria gets in and multiplies.

Just add an extra 15minutes onto cooking time to be safe, but it will be fine as long as you browned it off. x

It will be fine. The worst case scenario here is that it will dry out a bit, but it won't be unsafe.

As long as you browned it before the putting it in the casserole, you're safe.
