Is it okay to feed my puppy raw chicken drumsticks. She is a rottweiler, 8 months old. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I heard, cooked is more brittle, but raw is more flexible. Thanks in advance.

I know a lot of people are fans of RAW/Barf diet for dogs.
The raw bones will not splinter, as cooked bones do.

Do a google search for RAW/BATF dog food diet.

I feed my dogs raw chicken all the time, they love chicken backs :) Drumsticks should be fine. Chicken is only BAD for dogs when it is COOKED, especially the bones (for the people who don't know what they're talking about). When they are raw, the bones are much more malleable so they do not splinter (like cooked bones) in the throat which causes the choking, and internal damage. Also since they are not cooked, they are broken down by the stomach acid before they reach the intestines. Add: I'd love to get my hands on some kangaroo tails, maybe someday I'll be so lucky.

DO NOT COOK THE BONES FIRST! This will cause the bones to become brittle, splinter and cause you dog some major damage.

Dogs can eat raw meat and bones. Their stomachs kill bacteria in raw food, unlike ours. Just watch your pup carefully to make sure he doesn't choke on them. I'd start him off with chicken thighs instead of legs.

Yes, assuming they are totally raw. Cooked meat is not only unhealthy for dogs but the bones splinter in there mouths causing injury. Raw meat and bones is what dogs eat in the wild and what their boddies were made to digest.

With the size of your puppy, I'd recommend trying the whole leg quarter.

Raw bones are good, any type of cooked bones are bad.

No i don't think you should continue this because chicken bones are small and brittle and could easily brake and choke your puppy. Maybe try getting some larger dog from the meat counter at your market, or ask them out dog bones that's were we get our dogs.

Also try "Greenies" there could for keeping a dogs teeth clean and they just love them! But "Greenies" are a tad bit more expensive, if you want a cheaper treat try the Canidae Snap- Biscuits, there good training rewards because the can be Snapped apart into 3 pieces.

When purchasing bones from a pet store make sure they were made in America because shipping bones over sea can give them odd sea salt and other unseen things that are not good for dogs.

I've always heard they shouldn't, the chicken bone's break into slivers, and will get caught in the dogs throat, choking the dog, I don't know if cooked or raw makes a big difference. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't.
