It is not the main reason for wars, it is the BIGGEST excuse for wars..

This is not a true statement Many wars are for the gain of power. When you hear the phrase, "The Nation of Islam." It is meant as a government. That is the goal to create one universal Islamic state. It would be a theocracy based on the Quran. That is what the revolt was in Iran. Going back to the fundamentals. Islam does not support nor accept other religions.

War is more about ethnic dominance. Yugoslavia is an example. The murder of indigineous peoples in Central and South America.

World War 1 was not based on religion. It was a Royal assination that ignited the war. It spread throughout Europe.

World War II was not based on religion. There was religious persecution. The murder of so many innocent people. It was based on the hunger to rule the world.

Vietnam was not based on religion. Vietnam was a French colony. The French asked us to help them in Vietnam. Kennedy sent troops they (the French) left. This skirmish developed into the Vietnam War. The Michelin tire company is French.

The Revolutionary War - Not religious it was a war for the US independence.

The Civil War - Not religious it was about ideologies. States rights versus the Federal Governments'.

You're comparing apples and fruits in a very simplistic way

Being religious isn't about war it's about salvation, following a five fold path, defeating the evil Lord Xenu, and submitting to Allah

Sometimes people disagree on religion and war results.

Additionally the majority of wars are fought over resources, fear, and superiority, though they often use the religion of the country to manipulate the populace

Examine the following wars; Falklands War, WW2, Iraq, Vietnam, American Civil War, Irish Civil War, Wars of the Three Kingdoms etc., you'll see the motivating factor was land and resources with a religious backfill.

Simplistic people are the reasons for war

I disagree that religion is the main reason for war all throughout history.

Religion is easy to pervert into a method of controlling a large group of people. Usually in the process the leaders of a political agenda have objectives that are not related to religion at all. However, they use religion as a tool to influence people to support their political agendas. When this occurs the religion in question is changed into a form that supports the political objectives. This tactic usually only works on those who are poorly educated, or those who will be fighting people who have a different religion entirely.

Historically an example could be the Holy Crusades. Currently you can see this type of method being used in the Islamic fundamentalist movement. In both cases the religion is changed to support the political objectives. The religion in turn simply becomes a method to control people to support the political objectives. The religion itself is not the reason for any sort of conflict that might occur, it is simply a tool to influence people to support the conflict.

Using religion as a method can be very effective in influencing people. When a man tells you to do something he can be wrong, after all man is not perfect. When God tells you to do something then it is the right thing to do since God is perfect. When someone says that they speak for God and people actually believe them they can usually make people do anything they want.

Overall I think religion is a good thing, but people can take it and misuse it for their own purposes and objectives.

You're an idiot. You're a waste of space to society. You should go kill yourself....Right now. Because you are a f*#cking moron. And if you don't want to kill yourself, which you truly should, you should quit being lazy, and study history, and find out the real reason for war. Because like someone said earlier...religion is usually never the cause for war, although it is sometimes utilized as an excuse by those few extremists who usually aren't even truly religious.

Now go study or commit suicide. Either choice is fine by me. And stop asking idiotic questions which you should've studied in the first place, instead of watching your stupid Paris Hilton and Britney Spears videos or whatever new and popular bubble-gummer is in the media these days.

Oh, by the way, I'm not religious.

Mikey

Because religion is used wrongfully by the human race, Each religion feels they are right and set out to preach and change others beliefs,Instead of minding their own business. And then one side gets mad with some one whom disagrees and their egos take over and then there is a war on.
True religions should not cause violence but stop it by letting other have their beliefs as well
That is why religion & most religious persons are hypocrites as it is preached -- Love every one equally dispite his/her beliefs ,religion, opinons etc as we are all human beings despite them
I am an atheist and i even think war is a waste of time and lifes. Let live as is where is!

People have killed eachother over literally everything, religion and ethnic rivalries are the oldest and the ones still being fougtht today. Politics, demographics, economics, land, etc. are all reasons wars have been fought throughout history. Dont be so critical about religion. People are more willing to die for a divine being than they are a political party.

because humans always put their spin on it. combine that with the ability to find a quote from the bible (or koran and tora) to support any ideology, youve got a war waiting to happen.

often what happens is, people read a line in the bible (i'll use the bible for all my examples, since most of us are westerners) and they start to think "hey, this tells me to kill all non christians" and they do it because the bible says the only true god is a christian god.

now there is a problem with this because other religions have similar text. so youve got 2 groups who think their religion is the only real one and they are told to convert or kill others who hold a different religion.

personally, i think that if a god really exists, humans do a terrible job at interpreting what their religious text says, or even worse, saying their god tells them to do somthing which has little or no evidence to back it up.

in short, humans are incapable of truly understanding religion and will use it, combined with fear of god, to force their agenda and gain power

EDIT FOR SWEETPEA: "How did religion factor into WWII? or Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, or even Iraq? "

are you serious? hitler killed JEWS. jews are people who worship moses. judaism is their religion. as for conflict in the middle east, sectarian violence is based on certain "tribes" who hold different religious views. thats why there has always been conflict between shi'a and sunni. also, the west is attacked because we are allegedly actively seeking the end of islam. they feel that any western influence is an attack on their religion. also, alot of terrorists feel just like the crusaders did back in their day. these people arent muslim and need to be converted or killed.

as for korea and vietnam. not EVERY war has to be about religion. but one cant ignore the fact that most of em are. take a history class. one that covers 1 AD until about 1900, and then look at all the causes for war. remember, the world is alot older than the US and one shouldnt look at US only conflicts to make an argument on this topic, because we have only been apart of a small percentage of wars throughout history

Because religious is so great and because the war is also great thing then the two is related to each other. Any way, the problem is not with the religion but is with the human that they destroyed and destroying religions and earth and every thing.

It's not. It's to gain ground by taking it away from the other guy. The reason for war has been armed real estate expansion programs.
