two years ago when i was 17 i was driving home from school when i rear ended someone (not major) who had stopped all of a sudden to take a left turn. the damages cost $500 to repair my end. i dont think it cost any more on her part. anyway, she had left to take a turn, it was a busy street, and i had too. say there was a police there and he had pursued action or she had complained and a witness was there. now if i agreed to pay her damages as well, would i still go to court and jail? or would i get off? thanks. btw i live in massachusetts

Yes you could be jailed. Its called "leaving the scene of an accident" and "eluding a Police Officer." And you could still be charged.

You need to get a lawyer or court appointed lawyer if charges are pressed. These type of situtations are so sketchy, you really need one. I've been in a couple myself. It's a bit expensive but pays off in the long run to get a lawyer trust me! There are many, many lawyers specialized in this type of thing and will consult with you on your case usually free of charge to evaluate your options prior to hiring them and the lawyer taking the case.

Massachusetts is a particularly cumbersome state when it comes to police in these type of situations. They tend to be quite harsh. I know because I've been a Mass resident and also have relatives there who've been in somewhat similar incidents.

Also try and get your parents to consult with you on the issue if that's an option. They may be able to assist you.

Well, it has been two years and if she decided to pursue this case, I would think she would've already did. So I think she is not going to charge you.
