No it shouldn't because they are completely different cooking methods and affect the food in a different way. Fast and slow basically. If you are talking about a catering situation, then that's just normal bullshit. When I cooked in restaurant we deep fried cold pre-cooked potatoes and called them roast because it was easier to manage.

To roast is to cook in an over. Pan fry is well.......pan fried.

Yes, to "pan fry" is - to a "little more than flash fry on each side to give colour and keep the flavour, then place in the oven for final "roasting" it's yummy and good luck........

You could sear a piece of meat in a pan, then transfer it into the oven to finish the cooking process.
