It's not required by law, if that's what you mean.

But I don't know of ANY hospitals that will let a doctor use their facilities - operating rooms, etc, unless they have insurance coverage, including malpractice.

They could also have OTHER contracts requiring them to keep it, as providers with certain insurance companies, or Medicare providers.

If they're practicing legally they do. (Most hospitals also won't allow you to affiliate with them unless you have malpractice as well.)

Yep if you want to have hospital affiliations (go see your patients in a hospital) or get paid by insurance companies.

I dont know if they have to or not - they would be stupid not to have it though and I would imagine no hospital would employ anyone who didnt want it
