Get Cook's then. Not too expensive and rather tasty

For REAL champagne (most people on here are suggesting sparkling wine - not exactly the same thing), I would go with Dom Ruinart; alternatively, if you can get it in the U.S. Jacquart makes a wonderful vintage champagne which I think is in your price range. Ditto Perrier Joet Belle Epoque, although that might be just out of your price range.

Major brands I would look at Lanson, Moet or Canard Duchene (avoid the rose' - more expensive and not as good). If you can source these from a supplier as opposed to buying at a store, you will get a significant discount for buying in bulk.

Mad Cat - what would you serve your wedding guests - Cheezewiz and Fritos?

In that price range I'd go with a Mumms demi-sec. It's slightly sweet and fruity, and in the $20-$30 range. If you want to go higher (and be lucky enough to find it!) then the Mumms DVX. It only comes out once a year around November or so. It's about $60+ depending on where you get it.

Wait, but if you mean $50 is the total wine budget, not just one bottle, then go with Cook's. Seriously. I served it at my first wedding and everyone swore I had paid $30 a bottle!

I am buying a bunch for my Sister's wedding. Try the Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque in the hand painted flower bottle. It is by far the prettiest bottle of ALL Champagnes and it is also very good for the price. I know of better ones, but for around $50-60 bottle, you will have a great wedding and very pretty table decorations. Many people use the empty bottles as vases as they are so pretty.

I am a champagne pro.......that is all I drink all the time. I have visited many sparkling wine houses and in my opinion the below are the favs............

To impress for the $$$$ either.........
Domaine Carneros Rose, Napa Valley
Domaine Chandon Black Label Brut, Napa Valley

When really needing to attempt to save,
Cook's Black Label Brut, Madera, California

All of the above are right at about the $20 range.

I'm a big fan of Gruet, from New Mexico of all places. Reasonably priced and very good!

Moet or Moet Rose for your price range will be excellent.

I like Moet as well as Dom, and it's less than half the price....
