I'm not an atheists but non-religous. The characteristics I respect from Christians who are not judgmental, critical and obnoxious is their realistic grasp on life. I have had a clergy member tell me once "I will not try to push my own beliefs on someone else because they are my own and can't be proven". I also run into a lot of Christians that find extremely practical wisdom about life from the Bible, and apply it in a completely non-imposing way (e.g. forgive and forget or finding peace/harmony by accepting our limited control in the life). I have absolutely no-problems with Christians as I do not judge people by their beliefs/affiliations. I will admit that I find many Christians to say the least, scary but I find just as many who are the friendliest and most down to Earth people I encounter.

Love and gentleness combined with a steel solid core of resolution, and an awareness that sees the world as it is, not as dogma or optimism would have it. It's rare.
(Archbishop Tutu, perhaps?)
The first on it's own is just wet.
Emphasis on the second produces the bigots and the proud.
And the last on it's own only produces "fashionable " religion.
But then I don't think these rare folk are confined to Christianity.
Oh, and I don't claim to be one such.
I'll leave to to others to work out what I'm missing.

you have defined my ideals extremely nicely. There are 2 not basic middle Christians who're my co-workers and that's not basic for me to maintain my mouth close as quickly as I pay attention verses from the Bible getting used out of context and as though actual. between the adult adult males teaches a Sunday college classification for 5-6-7 3 hundred and sixty 5 days olds and the different is an assistant minister in between the "new" Protestant denominations. Neither of those adult adult males have a carry close of the previous testomony's historic previous. no remember if Abraham got here earlier or after Noah will stump them every time. I understand which you're asking how Christians react to my ideals yet in my case the shoe is on the different foot. that's me who's serious: "i attempted to understand what you suspect, yet it is my objection to it."

I respect those that are like my husband. He has his beliefs and never feels the need to 'witness' (he's also from England so I think that is probably why also), he accepts people just as they are and looks at the good qualities in them, and he is highly critical of some of what the bible contains as even he says parts don't make any sense.

I would admire them for their characteristics as a human being not for their religious beliefs.

Whether I respect or admire someone doesn't have anything to do with their religion. It depends on how they treat me and others around them.

I actually have more respect for the obnoxious Christians who take the bible literally. I cannot stand cafeteria Christians who think that their religion is about peace and love, because it is not. It is a violent, judgmental faith that calls for the destruction of those who do not follow its path.
I have nothing favorable to say about Christianity. I think it appeals to the weakest elements in human nature and it encourages schizophrenic thinking.

If they're truly walking the walk? I'd have to say the thing I most admire about them is their ability to keep right on walking away!

That they are, then, truly good human beings, who are humble, most likely charitable, and truly deserving of not only the comforts of faith, but of a happy life and afterlife. No one who does otherwise in that faith deserves such things as they do.

I'm not an atheist, but I'd like to answer anyway.
There's nothing unique to Christians I admire or respect.
