News reports this weekend stated that Spiderman 3 will only be released on HD and Bourne Ulitmatum will be released only as Blu-Ray, this is why I ask

No. You're misinterpretting the article. All the films will be on DVD. In the high definition arena, some films will be on Blu Ray only (like Spiderman 3) and some on HD DVD only (like the Bourne Ultimatum). The point of the article is that if you buy a 'next generation' player, you won't be able to play all the movies unless you buy both formats. DVDs, however, will still be released for quite some time.

I doubt it. No time soon I am sure. Blu Ray will prevail (my guess) and HD-DVD will go the way of Sony BetaMax. But Studios will continue to make Std. DVD compatible copies.

yes eventually, but a few years yet.
but if you watched a blu ray film you would be amazed at the picture quality.

I think much like VHS tapes they will still be making standard dvd's as long as people are still buying them.
