As people are telling you, whole milk until age 2. They do need the fat for brain development, but it isn't just the fat, they need the liquid fat in milk. Fat in other foods doesn't do the same thing, so you really do need to do whole milk until age 2, then 2%.

It is recommended that children drink whole milk until they are 2 years old and then switch to 2%. They need the extra fat content until age 2 for criticle brain development. After that it is just more fat in the diet. Unless the child is underweight or has some other medical issues they don't need the extra fat after age 2. If you have any serious question about it talk to your childs pediatrician.

It depends on the child. My daughter was on whole milk until she was two and she then switched over to two percent and was on skim by age 3. However, my sister's daughter was eating well and her doctor said as long as she was eating healthily, she could go to skim by 18 months. If your baby has enough fat in his/her diet, then there's no need to give the added milk fat.

from the time they get off formula at one year they need the whole milk for at least the next year because of the nutrients and fat content of the milk. by the time they are two they can be on 2% because they will be eating more to get their needs.

it depends on the child. My oldest due to metabolic issues was put on fatfree right from the start. We gave vitamins and efa's to replace the fat for the brain from milk. But my other children I decided different on their needs

You can give them 2% after 2 years of age, at least that's what they tell ya... BUT.. I never gave my kids whole milk,.. and they are perfectly healthy!!
I made this decision because my children were a little chunky as infants and I've read horror stories about children becoming extremely obese from drinking way too much whole milk and too much cookies, cakes, etc. I will not let this happen to my kids!!

When my daughter weined off the breast, she went straight to 2%. Her Dr. said whole milk has too much fat and non-fat doesn't have enough. He also said organic is better.
