Dolphin meat is eaten in most countries. That is the reason why fishermen net them. Despite their intelligence, they are still considered fish. But there are many different types of dolphin & all are not eaten.

No. Japanese don't eat dolphins as a nation.
A portion of groups did hunt dolphins before and exported it to the islands in the southern pacific oceans. Ppl including local Japanese condemn the behavior. But still some ppl, around 30 or something, are continuing it. But it is not a national tradition.

And I will tell you another truth. Eating whales (not dolphins) WAS tradition before. But today IWC banns whaling. Young Japanese don't know the diet culture of whale meat anymore.

I eat alot of Japanese food, including sushi & sashimi. I also have several Japanese friends and none of them or I have ever heard of eating Dolphins.

On the other hand, there is a regular fish (of the non-Flipper variety) that is quite tasty which is referred to as/called dolphin. Don't worry, it IS NOT dolphin meat.

I think eating actual Dolphins is sick!

I hope this helped.

Yes they do eat Dolphin, the Porpoise not Mahi-Mahi. They eat that too and so do I. The porpoise is supposed to taste like fishy beef. Don't know haven't had it. There is an anual harvest of dolphin in Japan with Greenpeace and others protesting. It is not a very popular item there anymore.
