Considering that God made man in his image wouldn't that make God a man? Woman was made from man's rib later and if God had made woman first, well.....

First of all, the word "God" can be used in a unisex way.
Second, the reason God is not a man or a woman is that he is not human. He is a god. He is called God to show that he is omniopotent and omnipresent.
Third, even if God was a she or a he, the bible was written by men. Did you ever notice that women are evil throughout the bible? HMMM, could that have something to do with a historically patriarchical society?
I'm not trying to be rude, either.

In all honesty, the idea of such entities having gender is a fallacy. On top of that, distinguishing male gods from female gods by using the term goddess is, in my view, sexist, in that no such distinction needs to be made.

I think the term God is used as a gender neutral term. It's not meant to be taken as a masculine term. However, Goddess is specifically female. I guess a better gender neutral term would be Supreme Deity.

Not really. The term "God" by some is associated with a male supreme being as defined by the religions that arose out of the mideast.
By others some it's a term for the supreme being. Your reasoning would fit the first instance but not the second.

There is no gender with God. You are using a language basis and it just doesn't fly as there are too many definitions of God.

Well let's think about it...back when the Bible was written, who wrote it? Man...and back then sexism was rampant...who was responsible for Original Sin? A woman, who asked for the head of John the Baptist? A woman...the thing is sexist against women....Woman's punishment for bringing sin to mankind was painful birth and (I think...) the Period, as well as being a practical DOORMAT for her husband...also, Man COULD HAVE changed She, to He and Goddess, to God....also, I would think that if He/She/It created us in His/Her/Its image....we'd all be herms...don't you think? And maybe God IS a herm....since he created man and women in His/Her/Its own image...funny isn't it?

Lol, those pesky feminists. You are correct. GOD...has been passed down, generation to generation, by male dominance.
Not saying it's correct, I believe GOD is whatever you want it to be, but that's why we still call "him" GOD. Wayyyyyyy back when, when religion scared people into believing their cause, they preached "Our Father, who art in heaven". The Bible.... written BY men FOR men.....sad, isn't it?
