She had OA so she isn't able to be a very good housekeeper. It grosses me out to see them eating on the floor. My son is now old enough to sit on his own and eat without a highchair and I DREAD having to deal with the situation when we go there next time.
MIL has 3 little dogs that poop and pee on the floor, plus, we walk around outside where the animals are and them come in a walk on that same floor they eat on. It's nasty. Her floor is black tile, so you can't really judge just HOW bad it is, but sometimes when they get up, the hiney of their clothes are dirty. EWWW!
I remember the first time I saw her do it. I was SO shocked.

These children belong to her two daughters. I would NEVER allow my child to eat off the floor when there are perfecting good chairs in the house.

The problem is going to come into play next time we go to her house and it is time to eat and she calls out, "Kids! Here's dinner" and sits a plate on the floor for my son, too.

My son has NEVER eaten off the floor. Until recently he has been too little to sit alone and eat. He's needed a highchair.
I think I'll put HIS highchair in the car and take it with us next time we go up there. Then, I can just take it in with me and there won't need to be a discussion about it. Because, I WOULD be RUDE if she tried to feed my boy on a floor.

Barthebear, I would LOVE to say that, however, it would cause WW3. She already knows I don't approve of some of the things she does. She won't come stay at my house (we live 3+ hours away), because she can't smoke inside the house.

jcarlp, I think my hus was found in the bushes. These folks are Jerry Springer all the way. I limit the time we spend there, but it is my child's grandmother, I feel she should see him once in a while.
The mothers help her put the food on the floor.

Keep your child away from that household. I don't care if your 3 hrs away. Its an unhealthy enviroment. She should be reported for such a thing. Do the parents of the other children know about this. What the he11 kind of family is this.

Oh this is awful!!!! I would make sure that they are in a high chair or kitchen chair. That is not safe at all for them to be eating off the floor knowing that 3 dogs go on the floor. I understand the illness but if you don't see that the kids are off the floor they will be dealing with a sickness as well. I hate to hear this, it breaks my heart.
Put newspaper on the kitchen table if she don't want the table to get dirty, but PLEASE keep the kids food away from all the germs. Good Luck!!

What a multitude. you're in tight spot for specific. I understand why you're apalled and apprehensive, exceedingly if the floor isn't nicely stored. If this exceeded off final one year then that is going to maximum possibly ensue back. maximum possibly asserting something approximately it is going to reason a war of words. in case you recognize her table is small, and he or she is unprepared to seat the 8 babies perhaps you ought to get a pair small tables, like little babies' units, or card tables and folding chairs and convey with you to help accomodate the youngsters. IF there are any that are no longer able to sit down down and consume on their own, their mum and dad ought to convey their own extreme chair. optimistically, bringing some further seating isn't as offensive as you calling her out with regard to the youngsters on the floor. superb needs. ok, I see you're creating an prolonged holiday. If that is nicely worth it to you to maintain your babies off the floor then perhaps your husband ought to flow %. one up on your MIL's city as quickly as you have arrived. That way you and the baby(ren) are out the motor vehicle and there is extra area. only provide it on your MIL so she might have it next one year. 4 chairs are better than none. a minimum of your babies could be accomodated, perhaps the babies ought to consume in 2 shifts. i do no longer understand, this may well be a annoying subject. Like I mentioned, stable success to you.

this is too gross for words ... I would definitely say something to your sister in law and make sure you don't leave your son there with your MIL ... when she does put the plate on the floor, tell her that your son isn't the dog and that he eats at the table.

This is easy. Next time she invites you, be busy. There is no rule that you HAVE to go there. If she asks why, tell her that your Doctor told you it is unhealthy for the little ones to eat off the floor . Short and sweet. You OWE your children that.

I agree, that's disgusting. Arthritis or not, that is no reason to have children eating on the floor like ANIMALS. If you continue to allow her to do this with your own son...you are just as bad as she is. I don't mean to be harsh.
Marlene's suggestion is on point.
Well, I fail to see your dilemma. If you are so worried about offending your MIL, when she wants to feed your son as if he were a family pet...then speak up. What's so hard about that??

Pick the plate up and put it on the table and tell her that your child doesn't eat where people walk.

I think this is gross too. She could at least put down a picnic rug for them to sit on. At least that is a bit more hygenic:)

this is shocking!!! Are these children yours? If they are I would for sure let her know this is not acceptable. Now, if the kids are your nieces and nephews, then it's not your business, of course. But, yes, i do think it is disgusting.
