the microphone is part and parcel of the telephone aparatus. Bell secured a patent in 1876 as he was able to demonstrate his invention actually worked. Others had the idea previously, but were impractical without the later invention of amplification by vacuum tubes. the key to the Bell patent was the audio level from the microphone was of sufficient electrical strength to be heard in an earphone without supplimental electronics.

David Edward Hughes is the inventor of microphone.
Emile Berliner fashioned a new type of transmitter which he called a "loose-contact" transmitter, a type of microphone, which increased the volume of the transmitted voice in the telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell.
