Find a small Toyota or Honda, have a mechanic check it out if it's used, and keep up on the maintenance. You should get years of good, inexpensive driving from it.

Depends on if you want a new one or not. but for the money you have to good cars toyota yaris which get about 35 to 40 mile per gallon, and the kia rio which gets a lil less, but they cost around the same price,i do know that you can get a lot of miles of a toyota and they last a long time,i do not know that about a kia.and both of these cars are small and compact and would be great for you.,i wish i owned 1,i have a big suburban which is very bad on gas.which i have to fill up 2 times a weekwhich cost about 76 dollars everytime i fill up,but with the yaris or kia you may only gas up every other week and it might cost you 30dollars. check the stats though before you buy. www.toyota.com or www.kia.com both cars im sure might be less than 12,000

Toyota Echo. We averaged 45 mpg combined and never had a problem with it. And it is quite roomy for a small car. Since they stopped making it, you will have to get a used one. IMO that's good. Cheaper to buy. Financially-wise, new cars are a waste anyway.
Consumer Report does not rate Hyundai very high. I don't know anything about Kia though.
Hope that helps.

You can test drive the Chevrolet Aveo if you are seeking something in the used vehicle line up. However, you can also take a look at the Chevrolet Sonic. The Chevrolet Sonic is new this year. The estimated fuel economy of the Sonic with the 1.8 liter, 4 cylinder engine along with the Manual 5 speed transmission is 26mpg city and 35mpg highway. If you are seeking an automatic transmission, the Sonic with the same size engine but with the automatic transmission has a fuel economy of 25mpg city and 35mpg highway. The new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic 2LZ has a MSRP of $18,625.00 with a destination charge of $795.00. Please, keep in mind all prices provided represent the current Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price and do not include tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional or dealer installed equipment. This vehicle also comes in a 5 door model. Michelle, GM Customer Service

You could get a Kia Spectra, they are inexpensive, seat 5 well, get 35 MPG, and have great crash saftey ratings.

Also try a Honda Civic, Go green with the Civic Hybrid. However you slice it, there’s a stylish, technology-packed Civic made for everyone. With the Hybrid getting up to 51 MPG:

May your choice be the best.

yeah Hyundai or KIA are very good cars as long as you do the schedule maintenance on them, and they are both great on gas mileage as well.

Stick with a honda, or toyota corolla they both give many miles with less trouble. Try to buy something with as low a miles on it as possible. Look to see if you can find something with less than 150K miles on it.
