Each branch has their own signature; however the Marines are usually the first ones out. They are highly trained individuals, they can be referred to as 'grunts' or 'jarheads' or 'leathernecks' - but do not for 1 moment undermine the ability of a Marine. I am not going to pit 1 branch against another; however I will say this. The Once A Marine Always A Marine slogan is a way of life.. that is why you'll never hear a true Marine say that they are an 'Ex' they will always say 'Former Marine'. Marines tend to have more of an allegiance or alliance... long after their tour(s) of duty.. There are several Former Marines that will extend jobs out to transitioning Marines etc.
Marines can be very bright and while I am sure there are a few duds.. there are so many skilled Marines that a dud here and there is no matter.
Being the first out gives people the perception that they are expendable; however the theory behind that is to send the Marines out because they will be able to detect the dangers and clear the way.
Take a look at a Marine.. then observe another member of another branch.. The Marine is serious in all pictures... their formations are some of the tightest in the world and even when they are not dressed to impress, they are still slick as hell to look at.
God Bless ALL Branches of the Military.. and God Bless ALL those that serve & have served; however DO NOT for one moment think a Marine is not one of the best and the brightest...
They Are The Few, The Proud, The Marines!
I have spent years as a Marine For Life Mentor and have worked with several transitioning Marines.. and I can tell you this.. if you want a multi-dimensional, extremely talented and well kept individual as an employee, friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, neighbor, police officer etc.. you'd be hard pressed to find someone better than a Former Marine.
Semper Fi!
I wish you well!

I haven't personally read anything like that, but I don't think someone who would make a statement like that know what thier talking about.
Its very difficult to be a Marine. They go through a grueling training regimate that only some thing like 60% are even able to complete. They are always our first to fight and time and time again they endure unspeakable hardships to ensure the same freedoms that so many of us take for granted.
If you think its easy to be a Marine I suggest you pick up a book and read about them.
"Theres only two types of people who understand Marines; Marines and those who face Marines"
"Some people go through life wondering if they have made a differance. Marines don't have that problem."

Because the civilian sector is under the impression that the Army and the Marine Corps are just a bunch of dumb grunts who only fight. What they don't realize is that there are alot more to the military than just fighting. We, the American military, have every job so we can be self sufficient. I don't feel like breaking it down Barney style for those insulting idiots. The only people who understand are those who have served.

Becoming a Marine does not seem easy to me. It's not just book smarts but it's mental and physical capability. Anyone could read a book and study for whatever, not anyone can endure what Marines go through no matter how hard they try.

that has to be the biggest misconception of the marines and army. hell the whole military branch. as much as i love busting up the marines(I'm Army) you actually have to have a brain to be in the marines. first off just because your a marine doesn't mean your Infantry you could be a black hawk pilot or a jet fighter. same goes for the army. so whoever told you this crap has half a brain!

Uh...you have been mislead, why don't you spend some time on their Island Resort getaway and find out how much fun it is to be a Marine. You have to have more than brains to be a Marine you have to have heart.

Whomever said that has half a brain. We have the best military in the world and I was happy to be a G.I.. We ate better, we were paid better, and we wore better uniforms and carried out our assignments with pride. In short, the rest of the world would like to emulate us, period.

I know several former Marines who would argue that point with you. Heck, why not go visit a recruiter and sign up, just to show us how easy it is?

I never said that as it isn't true! I don't know why anyone would say that!
All of the services have their hard parts, like being a deck ape on a aircraft carrier, one of the most dangerous jobs in the world!
