I have $600 credit at Continental Airlines. I need to buy a ticket before early Sept. I'd like to go to a place that is warm but not humid, friendly but NOT TOURISTY. I live in Manhattan so I'd love to choose a place that's the opposite of all the craziness here. Quiet, lots of open space, beaches are definitely an option as long as the sand is smooth; SUN!!!, friendly people (if any at all ), inexpensive...it could even be a buddhist temple in the quiet mountains of CA. I'd LOVE your suggestions! THANKS!!! :-)

Travelling too far can take the romance out of anything. Aim for someplace within 2 or 3 hours from you. Romantic in the City: Get a room in a hotel near a theatre (enough floors up so you don't hear the drunks at night) with room service so she doesn't have to do anything. It needs spa, pool, good variety of meals ... and no massage ... that is for you to give her. Romance in the hills: There are horse riding hire places that is a different escape. Some have 3 day treks from the hills to the beach (eg. west of Melbourne, towards the Otways). Sure it is in a group, but you want meals, tent site preparation and guides around. Also, 72 hours in each other's face may be too testing for some couples. Romance at home: - the smell of flowers and candles - kids off to camps or sleep overs - answering machine keeps the phone happy - and (you'll hate me for this, Bruce) she is not allowed in the kitchen. You have to cook and clean up dinner. That is so romantic for her.

Mr.Paul,

How about something in the mountains? Colorado,Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, etc... Nothing like some nice crisp mountain air.

I strongly recommend Door County WI in the fall. This is a remote feeling destination that is a short distance from Green Bay WI. Take a look at their site. This is definately a great value. http://www.doorcounty.com/
