Does anyone know whether the speed camera that is on the A690 going towards Sunderland city centre outside City of Sunderland College Bede Centre is working and has film in it? My wife has just texted me to say that she has been flashed by it (30MPH road, she thinks she was doing 35ish) and I've heard that quite a few cameras are just a visual deterrant.

If so, has anyone been done for speeding before? Is she likely to get a £60 fine and 3 points? I don't know as this is the first incident either of us have had during the 15 years we've been driving.

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, but yes it does. I used to live in Sunderland, and that was one of the most notorious speed cameras to get caught with. It's well positioned at the top of the bank and has made a fortune. I'm not sure how much you have to exceed 30 before they send you a fine, but I would say to expect one. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you though.
Good Luck. x

If it's flashed on you it's gotcha if it can read the plate. If you are lucky it got someone else but yoiu will soon know.
No point in an appeal it's just a revenue collecting excercise. If it was anything else there would not be so many cameras about

YOU GET A TICKET ONLY IF THEY CAN READ THE PLATE NUMBER ON THE VEHICLE. IF YOU GET A TICKET PAY IT. IT DOES NOT COUNT AGAINST YOU LICENSE. IF YOU DONT PAY IT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER YOUR VEHICLE AGAIN AND THE FINES WILL BE DOUBLE AND TRIPLE.
