I have been speaking to 2 ex Army Warrant Officers about this and a Lt Colonel serving with the British Army today and the story is as follows.......

If you are in the Army then you have to be in the house guards or another regiment which escapes me at the moment??....or an officer. Anyone else is not issued the blue dress uniform so you will not be able to wear it. Even if you did hire a uniform, you would have to alter it with rank insignia and regiment colours, battle honours, etc or else it WOULD BE fancy dress - it would be false uniform!! Anyone not entitled to wear this special uniform must wear their number 2 green uniform for formal occasions such as weddings. It may be an idea to ask your quartermaster if you are able to obtain a uniform, but the cost and effort to alter it (which would be irreversible) would be far too much and if you commanding officer heard that you were wearing a uniform that you are not entitled to, you would be in a whole world of trouble!! Overall, its not worth it. If you were entitled to this particular uniform, then you'd already be in possession of it, fully decked in correct insignia, rank and honours. Anything else, it is an impersonation, whether you are in the military or not, therefore fancy dress.

Are you even in the military, American or British?

Why do you need to hire "Dress Blues" to go to a wedding in the UK?

The British do not wear "Dress Blues".

Please do tell us more.

I agree with what others have said about if you were serving you wouldn't have to ask the question.

Also, a wedding IS NOT a parade.

I smell BS.

You can only get these made to measure now there is a shop called Costello's in London. Very expensive to buy. If you were serving in the forces then it would be worth buying as you would be able to wear to balls and dinners etc. But not for one occasion. My son is leaving the forces and is selling his but he wants £400. He is 5'11 medium build. So you can see they are not cheap....he had his tailor made and It cost a fortune....

You are not entitled to wear them, otherwise you'd know. I'd be extremely p****d off if you arrived at my wedding wearing fancy dress, which it would be if you are not serving yourself.

If you were ever in the Army you'd know this already.
