Ok heres the deal I'm an athlete, I play football and sprinter in track I'm all about short distance sprints from 60-400meters. Every now and then I go out side and run 20 sprints. I run the first 10 sprints at about 80% with 10-15 sec breaks in between. After the first 10 sprints I go for an water break for about 3-5 mins then do my last 10 sprints at the same rate but I sprint the last 10 at about 90%. I was wonder is this a good workout and will it help me improve performance.....and how often should I do it....?

I like structure, so I'd recommend you pick out 2 or 3 days a week for this effort, preferably your easy days from football. You can't give max effort every day and improve. So you gotta rest sometime.

I recommend you start with 20 x100s, sprinting the straights, resting on the turns. after 2 weeks alternate 20 x 100s with a day of say 10 x 220s. Keep the phone lines open for the recruiters calling....

Good Luck

It always helps to keep you muscles used to running fast. You don't say how far you are running in the intervals. Depending on the season determines how far and how often you should train. In the off season doing some speed work once a week should be enough. Be sure you work on your form while running. In sprinting your form determines how long you can run at top speed before slowing and how much you will slow at the end of the race.
